Thoughts Of Devotion:

This morning it is important to be determined to please God and seek his presence. There will always be reasons and excuses for not living lives that are pleasing to the Lord. Today there are so many things that if we allow them, they will surely distract us from God’s purposes. History teaches us that Josiah reigned as King in Jerusalem at the tender age of 8 years. At this age he began to seek God, and although his grandfather and his father Amon did evil in the eyes of Jehovah, Josiah was different! In 2 Chronicles 33:22 it tells us, “But he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done; for Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.”

The young man Josiah decided to be a reformer, an instrument of change, in the midst of a people who had fallen into decay and sin. Josiah refused to be a conformist; He wanted to please God wholeheartedly! In 2 Chronicles 34:4 it teaches us how he began to cleanse the people from idolatry, “They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.”

Today in the same manner, we must decide to serve God wholeheartedly; we cannot remain paralyzed when we see the moral and spiritual condition in which we find ourselves! Remember the words of Joshua 1:7 “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” It will be necessary to strive, and go against the influence of this world if we what to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. This is our time to make the difference, to see a transformation in our lives, families and congregation! But it all starts with us.

1 Kings 14:8 (NKJV) — and tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes;

2 Kings 22:2 (NKJV) — And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

Deuteronomy 5:32 (NKJV) — 32 “Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
