Renewal of Your Mind

Theme: Transformation Begins in Our Mind.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Ezra 7-10

Bible Versions:

Romans 12:2 (DHH-LA) — 2 Do not live according to the criteria of the present time; instead, change your way of thinking so that your way of living changes, and you come to know the will of God, that is, what is good, what is pleasing, what is perfect.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) — 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Devotional Thought:

The transformation according to the text we read begins in our mind! We must understand that our way of thinking has a direct consequence on who we are and how we conduct ourselves. Proverbs 23:7 tells us, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” What we need today is a renewal of our mind. A new way of thinking, a mind like Christ’s! As 1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV) says, “For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”

The renewal of our thinking is a very important process that must be happening in our lives. It is true that it will take time and effort, but the result will be that we will see a real change in our lives. For this to happen, our mind must be filled with things that will build up our spiritual life, as Philippians 4:8 declares, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

We cannot just spend our day occupying our mind with things that do not edify, like doubts, fears, or things that belong to the flesh. Romans 8:6 warns us, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Today, we must determine not to waste time on thoughts that will bring us down spiritually. Instead, we must fill ourselves with the Word of God! God’s plan is that we are daily renewed and changed through the renewal of our mind. Only in this way will we experience a complete and total transformation in us.

Key Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV) — 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

Ephesians 4:23 (NKJV) — 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

1 Peter 1:13 (NKJV) — 13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Colossians 3:12 (NKJV) — 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

Romans 8:6 (NKJV) — 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
