Walk By Faith

Theme: Faith Is Trust in What Is Not Seen.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)

Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

John 20:29 (NKJV)

Plan to Read the Bible in 2024

1 Chronicles 13-16

Bible Versions:

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NLT) — “For we live by believing and not by seeing.”

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) — “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

John 20:29 (NIV) — “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.'”

Devotional Thought:

What are we looking at this morning? What are our eyes fixed on? It is possible that we might not see God’s promises fulfilled in our lives. Our natural sight only sees the present situation, what the natural eye perceives, as 2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us, “we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” Our walk with God is not based on what is seen, but on the eternal things which can only be seen with the eyes of faith.

Every great man of God had to face situations where God demanded a walk of faith and trust, even when nothing is visible. Moments where they had to step out and believe in God’s promises more than what the natural eye could see. Moses, the Scriptures tell us, “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27). Moses didn’t stay focused on the impossible situation he faced; he kept his eyes on God, the Invisible! He left Egypt trusting that God would fulfill His promise, that He was faithful to His Word.

We will face moments where our walk will be one of faith, without seeing anything that God has promised us. Let us ask ourselves, what do we see this morning? We only see problems, challenges, difficulties, etc. Often, this is all that is in front of us! But faith tells us, look at the Invisible, see what the spiritual eyes see. Focus on the eternal, not the temporal! Let us pray to the Lord that our faith does not fail because we only see what is temporary. Faith is not required for what is seen; faith is required for the things that are not seen. This morning let us hear the words of Jesus, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). We are blessed when we hold firm in our faith, seeing the Invisible. Hallelujah!

Key Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NKJV) — “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV) — “By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.”

Hebrews 11:27 (NKJV) — “By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.”

Hebrews 11:13–14 (NKJV) — “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.”

Hebrews 11:8 (NKJV) — “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”
