Thoughts of Devotion:
Scripture teaches us that eternal life is to know Jesus Christ. Eternal life is only reached through the knowledge of Jesus Christ. This knowledge is not limited to Salvation, but it goes beyond this to a continual, permanent and lasting relationship. We must understand that knowing Jesus as our personal Savior is only the first step. Jesus desires to reveal Himself in a personal and real way in our daily lives. In a personal relationship with Him is where we find the true meaning of eternal life.
What a blessing that in knowing Him we will find eternal life! Eternal life is not only something that is obtained in the future, but it is something one has in the present time. The eternal life that we possess today in Jesus Christ has more to do with quality of life rather than only its duration in eternity. Today we not only have promised eternal life after death, but we are blessed with this life now. The life we have in Jesus Christ is supreme; it involves an intimate and continual experience with Jesus daily. I am ministered by the way Mr. Barclay sums it, “Eternal life is nothing else than the life of God. To possess it, walk in it, is to experience here and now some of the splendor, majesty, joy, peace, and the holiness that are characteristics of the life of God.”
Let us pray that our knowledge of God be more than only information about Him, but that we would come to know him in a personal way. There are people today that know about God, but they don’t know God. To know God is composed of a continuous and daily experience. This is all in life! To know Him. There is no other plan, no other way. He is the “only true God.” Do we desire eternal life? Then we will find it in an intimate and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
