Devotional Thought:

This morning, how determined are you to obtain God’s blessing? To receive everything that God has prepared for our lives, it will take determination, courage, and perseverance. This is the example we see in Jacob’s life—he was not going to stop fighting for his blessing! He would not let go of the angel until he blessed him! Hosea 12:4 tells us, “He struggled with the angel and overcame him; he wept and begged for his favor. He found him at Bethel and talked with him there.” Because of his perseverance, Jacob received God’s blessing over his life.

I believe this is sometimes what many believers lack—determination to obtain God’s blessing despite the circumstances we are facing! Sometimes we give up too easily; any opposition discourages us. We stop fighting, not knowing that the blessing is just around the corner. We lack the perseverance to continue fighting for God’s blessing until we receive it! This is why we cannot be easily moved as 2 Thessalonians 2:2 says, “Do not be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.”

Determine today to keep fighting for your blessing; do not let anything distract or move you. If God has promised to bless our lives, then we cannot abandon His plan so easily! 1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” If we are determined to live under God’s blessing, surely His blessing will come to our lives! It is those who persevere in obedience and submit to God’s plans who, in the end, are abundantly blessed.

Key Scriptures:

1 Chronicles 4:10 (NKJV) — “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.”

Psalms 67:1 (NKJV) — “God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us. Selah”
