Jehovah Will Provide
Topic: Jehovah-jireh, Jehovah Will Provide
And Abraham answered: God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering, my son. And they went together.
Genesis 22:8 (NKJV)
Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Genesis 22:13 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan 2023
1 Samuel 13-15
Bible Versions:
(NLT) — 13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Thoughts of Devotion:
On this day, do we want to know God more? Do we want to know him more intimately? As we take one step closer to knowing God we must consider the names the Bible uses to describe him. God reveals himself through his names! Scripture tells us in John 17:26, ” And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” God wants us to know him even more through the names that describe him in the Scriptures.
The book of Genesis teaches us about the history of Abram and that of his son Isaac. God on this occasion tests Abram’s obedience and faith by asking his son Isaac as a sacrifice. As Abram obeys, we find God telling him in Genesis 22:12, “And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Abram obeyed and as a result experienced God’s provision over his life. His faith in God was founded on total obedience. There was no room in his life for indecision or doubt, he immediately and completely obeyed God.
On this day we can trust and depend on God completely. He is Jehovah-jireh, our provider. Do you have a need today? Still do not know how you will get out of this dilemma or situation? God wants you to trust him one hundred percent! If you obey Him and wait on Him, He will certainly supply your every need. Just as Abram experienced God’s provision, we too can see his provision over our lives. We cannot leave room for doubt or despair. God will provide for us, this is his promise! Let us pray this day that we may know God more intimately as our provider.
Foundational Scriptures:
Hebrews 11: 17–19 (NKJV) — 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 [a]of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” 19 concluding that God was able to raise himup, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
Romans 8:32 (NKJV) – 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
Psalms 16:8 (NKJV) – 8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Psalms 22:4–5 (NKJV) — 4 Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them. 5 They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.
