Prayed And Gave Thanks
Topic: The Challenge To Pray and Give Thanks to God in the Middle of Our Crises and Problems.
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
Daniel 6:10 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
Daniel 6:10 (NIV) — 10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Daniel 6:10 (NLT) — 10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.
Daniel 6:10 (MSG) — 11 When Daniel learned that the decree had been signed and posted, he continued to pray just as he had always done. His house had windows in the upstairs that opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he knelt there in prayer, thanking and praising his God.
Thoughts of Devotion:
Sometimes when we are going through difficult times or a great trial, praying and giving thanks to God becomes something very difficult to do. Our emotions and feelings vary and discouragement wants to take possession of us. We can see here that the prophet Daniel went through a very difficult situation. His life was in great danger, because of his faith in God! The edict was very clear, “that anyone who in the space of thirty days demands petition of any god or man besides you, will be thrown into the den of lions.” But Daniel, even hearing this, continued to pray and thank God as he always had.
Nothing changed, everything stayed the same! Daniel was not moved by the circumstances he faced, nor by the consequences (the den of lions that awaited him). What a great lesson for us this morning. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 we read, “pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” This is exactly what Daniel did, he continued to pray and thank God! And this is what we must do when we go through difficult times. The enemy would like to silence us, and rob us of our gratitude to God. But the true believer understands that the more attacks, one must pray and thank God!
If this morning the enemy tried to steal your gratitude, don’t allow it! Remember what Philippians 4:6 tells us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” In the midst of your dilemma, do not let anxiety and worry flood your being. Learn not to let yourself be controlled by your emotions, your fears and worries. At all times praise and bless God as Psalms 34:1 tells us, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” God will save you from the lions’ den, just as he did with Daniel, just pray and thank God! This is the secret to experiencing victory.
Psalms 34:1 (NKJV) – 1 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) – Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
Colossians 3:17 (NKJV) — 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:17–18 (NKJV) — 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Hebrews 13:15 (NKJV) — 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Acts 20:24 (NKJV) — 24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Revelations 2:10 (NKJV)-10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
