But Each One Look How He Builds

Topic: Being A Wise Builder Is Building In The Holy Spirit!

According to the grace of God that has been given to me, I, as an expert architect, laid the foundation, and another builds on it; but each one look how it builds.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Isaiah 36-38

Bible Versions:

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NIV) – 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (NLT) – 10 By the grace that God gave me, I laid the foundation as an expert in construction. Now others build on top; but anyone who builds on this foundation has to be very careful.

1 Corinthians 3:10 (MSG) – 10 I, responding to the gift that God has given me, have laid the foundations as a good architect; another is the one who lifts the building. Look, however, everyone how he does it.

Thoughts of Devotion:

This morning it is important to ask the question, How are we building? We as believers will have to build our lives, families and ministries. Here we see that the Apostle Paul looked at himself as the one who had laid the foundation, he had already established the base of the building. The foundation was very clear, in 1 Corinthians 3:11 it tells us, “because no one can lay another foundation than the one that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” But the challenge after this was how others were going to build on this foundation! It was clear that the foundation was certain, but how it was built on it would be the issue.

These words should concern us, they should cause an interest in how we are building our spiritual life. Every day we undoubtedly invest our time, talent and treasure in something, but the question is what value does it have in the spiritual perspective! No doubt the day will come when even this will be proven as 1 Corinthians 3: 13-14 tells us, “each one’s work will be made manifest; because the day will declare it, because by fire it will be revealed; and the work of each one, whatever it is, fire will prove it. If you keep the work of someone who has been built, you will receive a reward.” It is clear that what we build will be put to the test, and the result depends on us.

It is for this reason that we must build with excellence, we must build and work in the things of the Spirit. Through his grace in us we will be able to build with the correct material, with the material that the fire will endure. The Apostle Paul understood this as 1 Corinthians 15:10 tells us, “But by the grace of God I am what I am; and his grace has not been in vain with me, before I have worked more than all of them; but not me, but the grace of God with me.” On this day it is very clear that building in the Spirit is laborious, takes commitment and diligence, but its reward is eternal!

Fundamental Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 15:10 (NKJV) – 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am; and his grace has not been in vain with me, before I have worked more than all of them; but not me, but the grace of God with me.

Colossians 1:29 (NKJV) – 29 for which I also work, fighting according to his power, which acts mightily in me.

Matthew 7:24 (NKJV) – 24 Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock.

Zechariah 4: 9 (NKJV) – 9 The hands of Zerubbabel shall lay the foundation of this house, and his hands shall finish it; and you will know that Jehovah of armies has sent me to you.

Romans 15:20 (NKJV) – 20 And in this way I made an effort to preach the gospel, not where Christ had already been appointed, so as not to build on someone else’s foundation,

Colossians 4:17 (NKJV) – 17 Say to Archippus: See that you fulfill the ministry you received in the Lord.

1 Peter 4:11 (NKJV) – 11 If anyone speaks, speak according to the words of God; If anyone ministers, minister according to the power that God gives, so that in all things God may be glorified by Jesus Christ, to whom the glory and the empire belong for ever and ever. Amen.

Nehemiah 4: 17-18 (NKJV) – 17 Those who built on the wall, those who carried, and those who carried, with one hand worked in the work, and in the other had the sword. 18 For they that builded, every one had his sword girded about his loins, and so they builded; and the one who played the trumpet was next to me.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) – 15 Strive diligently to present yourself approved to God, as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, who uses the word of truth well.
