Thoughts of Devotion:

In this portion of the Scriptures we can see how the people of Israel went up the mountain to bring wood to rebuild the house of the Lord. The time to rebuild had arrived, they clearly understood that before they were to see the glory of God, they needed to dedicate themselves to the great task of restoring the temple! They had to possess an urgency and a passion to bring resources to the house of the Lord. As we read in Nehemiah 4: 6, “So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.”

The task for the people was not to build a new temple, it was not to start a new project, but above all to restore the destroyed temple! They had to raise from the dust a temple where the presence of God would dwell, where the glory of God will be manifested in all its power and magnificence. In Isaiah 58:12 we read, “Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.” Out of ruin they were going to build a glorious temple, they were to be known as restorers!

This morning it is time to restore, to redeem what is torn down and destroyed. It’s not time to build something new, but its time to take up what we have not finished. It is time to see the restoration of all that God has promised to us. Today we need to go up the mountain and bring wood to build our lives, our family, our ministry. Some of us have had great losses, great dissolutions and defeats. This is time of putting our effort to see the restoration of all that God has promised us.

The promise of Joel 2:25 tells us, ““So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, The crawling locust, The consuming locust, And the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you.” Let us never forget that when God restores, it will always be better, because God repairs he always will leave things in a superior condition than they were!
