Devotional Thought:
On this day the Lord invites us to bring to mind our walk with Him. There are times where it is very important to look at where we are today and remember our journey with the Lord. In doing so, one must ask, am I closer to God today than I was yesterday? Am I more on fire for God today than in the past? In the book of Revelation, God convicts the church by saying, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:3-5).
The Lord wants us to return to our first love today. If for some reason we have fallen in our relationship with Him! The book of Deuteronomy gives us a promise, if we go back and humble ourselves before Him, “When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them”(4:30-31). Thank God for the second chances we have to return once again to his ways. The Lord waits with His arms of mercy open for us!
Let us pray the same prayer made by the prophet Jeremiah, “Bring us back to you, God —we’re ready to come back. Give us a fresh start” (5:21;MSG). Let us decide today that our relationship with the Lord will be stronger and greater than in past days. This is real and genuine revival, the return to the old ways and seeking the Lord’s face! Reflect and bring to mind the best times, not to mourn, but to be filled with faith and believe that our best days are ahead. Days of revival and great glory! Days in which our lives will be marked by the presence of God.
Topical References:
Deuteronomy 4:30–31 (NKJV) — When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
Jeremiah 31:4 (NKJV) — Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You shall again be adorned with your tambourines, And shall go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.
Hebrews 10:32 (NKJV) — But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:
Revelation 2:3–5 (NKJV) — and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lamp stand from its place—unless you repent.
