Be Filled With The Spirit

Topic: Living In The Fullness Of The Holy Spirit.

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Timothy 1-4

Bible Versions:

Ephesians 5:18 (MSG) Don’t drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him.

Ephesians 5:18 (NLT) Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,

Ephesians 5:18 (NIV) Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

Devotional Thoughts:

The Apostle Paul reminded the brethren of the church of Ephesus to not get drunk on wine, but rather seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit. He would insist that they would experience the Holy Spirit in all His fullness. We see that the fullness of the Holy Spirit can be defined as a complete manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, fruit, services, and spiritual gifts. These events in the lives of believers are evidence that the believer is, in fact, the temple of the Holy Spirit.

I ask myself, why settle for just some? When God has much more for us! John 3:34 tells us, “For he who God has sent speaks the words of God: for God gives not the Spirit by measure.” Let us not place a measure, when God gives us his Spirit without limit. Today we cannot put a measure when God gives the Spirit without limit. Being filled with His presence and glory should be our daily desire. Even the word “full” in the original language indicates a continuous and constant fullness. Not only once, but we must be filled daily with His presence in our lives.

I Pray that the Holy Spirit will fill us completely. We don’t want only part, we understand that God’s desire for us is complete fullness, but this requires a decision and determination on our part. We must desire and long for all that God has for us. Being filled with the Holy Spirit indicates God has complete control of our lives and will. The filling of the Holy Spirit is to allow him to fulfill the purpose for which he came to live in us as believers. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit! He dwells in us and for this reason he desires to have complete control of our lives.
