Thoughts of Devotion:

God promises this morning to form in us a heart that would seek and know him more intimately. He desires that our search for Him would not only be something superficial or lightly having no depth. We know that this does not please Him. Our relationship with him should never be routine or cold. Through his Holy Spirit he desires to do a profound and internal work within us in order for us to seek him whole heartedly. That today we would be able to run to Him and desire to be in his presence enjoying intimate communion with Him.

The Lord teaches us in his Word that the center of a relationship with him is in the heart. It is in the heart that he continually works, so that our actions and behavior would change as a result of his work. Everything begins with a work of the heart! The heart drives the interior of a person, the will and the mind. The Prophet Jeremiah recognized that the people’s problem was that their heart had departed from the Lord. God promised to restore them in Jeremiah 24:6, “For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; I will build them and not pull them down, and I will plant them and not pluck them up.”

Let us pray this morning that our search for God would not be something that we take lightly. God promises to do a work in us so that our heart would beat with a passion for Him. In the book of Philippians 2:13 we are told, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” It is only His grace that produces in us the desire and longing to have communion with Him. The reality is that within us there is nothing good. Our heart in occasions is filled with so many things that there is no room for God.

That this morning we would allow God to give us a new heart that he desires.  As we are told in Deuteronomy 30:6 “And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.” Let us yield our will and surrender our all to God so that our communion with God would be restored. Will you allow God to do this in you? God desires to do it, but it takes your will, we must decide to seek him from our hearts.

Foundational Scriptures:

Jeremiah 31:33 (NKJV) — 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Jeremiah 30:22 (NKJV) — 22 ‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’”

Deuteronomy 30:6 (NKJV) — 6 And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

Ezekiel 11:19 (NKJV) — 19 Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,

Zechariah 13:9 (NKJV) — 9 I will bring the one–third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”
