Dug Deep And Laid The Foundation

Topic: Hearing His Word Starts The Good Foundation In Us.

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.

Luke 6:48 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Ezekiel 6-10

Bible Versions:

Luke 6:48 (MSG) ― 48 “If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last.

Luke 6:48 (NLT) ― 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built.

Thoughts Of Devotion:

This morning we see how Jesus teaches us the importance of a good foundation. It is for this reason that we must view this matter very seriously and wisely. Taking seriously (or not) the teachings of Jesus, and reflect them (or not) in life, is what will give us consistency (or fragility) to our foundation. Everything is in balance, on the scale, everything depends on the quality of our foundation. The success and failure, acceptance and rejection, reward and loss, life and death, stand and fall, everything depends on the strength of our foundation!

Jesus teaches us very clearly how we can achieve to build a firm foundation. The first important thing is that we must hear the Word of God. Everything starts with hearing his word carefully. In Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” We will never succeed in building a firm foundation if we’re not listening, reading and even speaking the Word of God in our lives. Statistics show us that 88% of households have Bibles in the United States. The average number of Bibles in a household is almost five in this country. This is without considering the many applications and online Bibles.

Still, they are several believers who do not read the Bible daily. They do not have the regular habit of spending time daily in His Word! The reason this happens often is that they are very busy with responsibilities in life to spend quality time reading His Word. Today we must remember what Luke 11:28 tells us, “But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” It’s in His Word that we will discover what is necessary to ensure a solid foundation. Let us decide this morning to be those that have found our lives in the Eternal Word of God.
