Why Do You Call Me Lord?

Topic: If He Is The Lord, We Must Obey Him!

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” Luke 6:46 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Isaiah 6:46

Bible Versions:

Luke 6:46 (NLT) — 46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?

Luke 6:46 (NIV) — 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

Thoughts Of Devotion:

Our desire and ambition should always be to do the will of God. We should live our lives, conscious that God has a perfect plan, a destiny, and a set purpose in our daily walk. The book of Romans reminds us this when it tells us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ” (12:2). Thank God for the good will that The Lord has prepared for us. In his will we will find satisfaction, delight and contentment for our lives.

I ask myself, why is it that some even knowing the will of God still don’t do it? It ministers to me how Jesus makes this question so direct and personal, “why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”(NIV). It’s sad but there are believers that haven’t learned to walk in Gods perfect will for their lives. Some of them declare that Jesus is The Lord! But their life and conduct demonstrate otherwise. In Matthew 7:21 the word tells us, ““Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”

Today it’s not only about declaring the Lordship of Christ with our lips, but it is important to act upon it. Words are easily said, but at times they are hard to follow through with. Let’s understand that The Lord already traced all the plan and purpose he has for our lives. If only we take the time to obey and seek his will before our own! James 1:22 tells us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Today we must remove all deception and decide to walk with Jesus the Lord of all our life.

Foundational Scriptures:

Malachi 1:6 (NKJV) — 6 “A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’

Matthew 7:21 (NKJV) — 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

John 13:13 (NKJV) — 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.

Ezra 7:10 (NKJV) — 10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

James 1:22 (NKJV) — 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

One response to “Thursday, August 5 -Why Do You Call Me Lord?

  1. Today’s devotional reminds me how my life was without the Lord in my life, I lived according to what I wanted to do and thought was best and too many times it ended in disappointment, heartache and despair! Since I accepted the Lord in my life, that means I accept HIS will, HIS plan HIS desires! Since then I can finally say I feel complete, confident, loved and genuinely happy💕 If we think we can call Him Lord and still keep the old self, we are only fooling ourselves! Let’s not just talk about our Father’s business, let’s do Our Father’s will! 🔥🙌🏼
