Him Crucified

Topic: The Gospel As The Message Of The Cross.

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2: 2 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Samuel 13-15

Bible Versions:

1 Corinthians 2: 2 (NLT) – 2 For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.

1 Corinthians 2: 2 (NIV) – 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2: 2 (MSG) – 2 I deliberately kept it plain and simple: first Jesus and who he is; then Jesus and what he did—Jesus crucified.

Thoughts of Devotion:

We recognize as believers that the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross is the heart of the gospel and of our Christian faith. I wonder, what would become of us without the death of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary? Where would we be without the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross? Through the Cross and the resurrection of Jesus, redemption and forgiveness of sins have been offered to all of us who believe in Him. The Cross continues to be an emblem of hope and a continual reminder to the world of God’s great love.

It is for this reason that the Apostle Paul viewed the Cross as the heart of the gospel. His only desire was to preach Christ, and of Him crucified. For him the Cross was the target and the whole of the message that he preached, we see that he said, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”(1 Corinthians 1: 17-18).

Today we are commissioned to carry this same empowering and life-changing message. In these times that we live we must ensure that the Cross still remains the center of our message! We understand that times change, and years go by, but the Cross remains at the center of our message. We cannot abandon or underestimate the Cross, because then we will lose our power and efficiency. We will end up being ineffective and without results in the commission that Christ has left us.

Let us be careful that what happened to the Galatians to us. They lost sight of the Cross, to the point that Paul had to say to them, “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” Let us pray that nothing and no one will fascinate us to the degree that we abandon something so valuable and with such great esteem, The Cross of Christ!

Foundational Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 1: 17–18 (NKJV) – 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:23 (NKJV) – 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,

Galatians 3: 1 (NKJV) – 1  O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?

Galatians 6:14 (NKJV) – 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
