Thoughts of Devotion:
To experience expansion in 2021 we will have to continually practice generosity in our lives. Generosity has God’s promise, just as greed has real consequences. To the one who gives with full hands the Lord promises to give more than what was given. The reason why one comes to experience this blessing is because God is not in debt to anyone. His provision and blessing is upon those who are liberal in their giving, those who don’t hold back in giving to the Lord. Do we want to see God’s generosity with us in 2021? The secret is to be generous with Him! Let us remember what His word tells us, “But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”(2 Corinthians 9: 6).
There is no reason to retain more than is fair, to live our lives always with a clenched fist, with greed in our hearts. Scripture continually warns of the consequences to this lifestyle. It assures us poverty, complete loss, and even ending up in misery. Who wants to end like this? I think nobody. It is important not to retain more than what is fair. The Lord asks us first to be generous with Him, “Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”(Proverbs 3: 9).
You have to practice this, but let’s not forget that it must be with God, first. Let’s not make the mistake of being generous to others, and not to God. There are people who are very liberal and giving with people, but not with the Lord. It cannot be like that, let us remember that God promises that our barns will be full and abundant when we are generous to Him. God will always take care of those who are generous with Him, God will always provide for the generous!
This morning let us pray to the Lord that we can practice generosity in 2021. Let us ask God for a generous heart towards God’s work. Let the Holy Spirit form us and take us to another level. May all greed in our lives be removed and may we experience God’s blessing and prosperity. May we begin to be faithful to God in our tithes and offerings, if we are not already doing so. Let us not forget that he who withholds more than what is fair falls into poverty. Let’s take up the challenge today bu practicing generosity unto the Lord.
