Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning it is important to understand that before God expands our territory He wants to enlarge our hearts. When Jabez asked God to expand his territory, God first had to do something in him, because expansion begins in the heart. The work of the Holy Spirit is always from the inside out. This is a truth that we can see through the Word of God. We see this in Solomon’s prayer in 1 Kings 3: 9–10, “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.”
In order for King Solomon to rule over a great people he recognized that he needed God to expand his heart and give him a broad understanding. God often has to take us through a process where He works deep in order to achieve an englarging of the heart! Our hearts have to be big enough in 2021 to contain all that God has in store for us. There is a specific purpose that God has, a destiny, a future full of promise, but first we need a new and wide heart! Let’s never forget that what will make us great in 2021 is not who we are, but the size of our hearts!
Let us pray this morning that God, in the process of expanding our heart, also renews it and transforms it more in His image! The Holy Spirit wants to renew, to give us a new heart; only then we can see results and fruit. In Ezekiel 36:26 God gives us a promise, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spiritwithin you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Everything starts in the heart, the moment God renews it and magnifies it, wonderful things will happen! This is the time to allow the Holy Spirit to do an internal and deep work in each one of us. If we do, we can be sure that the days ahead will be glorious days of expansion and growth.
