Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning, when we see Jabez’s prayer, we see how he sought expansion and growth in his life. He did not make the mistake of being paralyzed by how difficult his situation was, but he began to call upon the God of Israel! The word “invoke” speaks of calling someone, requesting, asking for help, help from someone with higher power. In Jeremiah 33: 3 he tells us, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” The cry and supplication was the correct first step that Jabes took, this is what made the big difference between success and failure in his life!
Jabez prayed to the God of Israel saying: “Oh, if you would bless me and extend my territory! The first request Jabes made was God’s blessing, what a great lesson! He knew the secret of expansion, he said all he needed was His blessing! And he didn’t just pray lightly, his prayer wasn’t superficial; but he cried out to God fervently and with a strong desire in his heart. He wanted his blessing more than anything else in this world. Jabes understood that if he had his blessing, everything else would come to his life!
By seeing this we can learn that God’s blessing is what produces expansion, prosperity and growth in this life. His Word tells us, “It is the blessing of Jehovah that makes rich, And he does not add sadness with it.” In this year 2021 we must believe that God has more for our lives, a number of stored blessings! For this reason we should not be satisfied and complacent with what we have. Let us long to have and enjoy all the blessings that God has prepared for His people! If we persevere, God will bless us, let us remember the example of Jacob when he wrestled with the angel in Genesis 32:26, “And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” In 2021, let’s seek his blessing and fight to obtain all that God has promised us. Amen!
