Thoughts of Devotion:

As one thinks about God’s purposes for our lives, it is important to get to the bottom line! We can think of the many reasons why God has allowed us to have life today, but in light of this parable one can clearly see that the primary purpose is to bear much fruit for God. Jesus paid a high price for our salvation, and we cannot waste such a great salvation! In Hebrews 2: 3 he tells us, “how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.” We must value our place in the vineyard of the Lord.

It is important to remember this morning that we were not just saved, we are not just living in 2021! Rather, God has placed us with a purpose, a reason why we have been placed as branches in his vineyard. In John 15: 1–2 Jesus tells us, “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” A vineyard only has one purpose and that is to bear fruit, if there is no fruit then what is the purpose of being in the vineyard!

We are branches in his vine, praise God for this great privilege! But it is important to remember that all privilege comes with responsibility. In the year 2021 we all have a great responsibility, it is to bear fruit and more fruit for God! Not only leaves, not only external appearance of life, but fruit that abounds to our account. To many of us God has given us much and it is necessary to return to God accordingly. In Luke 12:48 Jesus gives us a warning, “But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

Today is our time of expansion and growth. We cannot settle for just being a part of the Lord’s vineyard, this is not enough! God has more for our lives. He did not place us in his vineyard just to give green foliage; He appointed us to bear abundant fruit for Him. In John 15:8 he says, “By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” We must glorify God by fulfilling our purpose completely, let us bear fruit at 30, 60 and 100! In God everything is possible, amen!

Foundational Scriptures:

Isaiah 60:21 ( NKJV) – 21 Also your people shall all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified.

John 15: 5 (NKJV) – 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Jeremiah 2:21 (NKJV) – 21 Yet I had planted you a noble vine, a seed of highest quality. How then have you turned before Me Into the degenerate plant of an alien vine?

Isaiah 5: 4 (NKJV) – 4 What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes?

Philippians 4:17 (NKJV) – 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.

John 15:16 (NKJV) – 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Galatians 5: 22–23 (NKJV) – 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

John 15: 4 (NKJV) – 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

  1. Today is our time for growth in the lord, like it says this isn’t enough we want more of the lord, cause he has more planned for our lives.

  2. No matter the size of our calling, we have all been called to be a branch that bears fruit for God. Let’s not take this privilege for granted.

  3. In this year 2021. We are called to bare fruit and be fruitful. We can’t settle to be the same but we must continue to grow.

  4. God didn’t just put us in the vineyard to be there he wants us to grow fruit and grow spiritually closer to him. God has so much more plans we just need to keep serving him and trust in him.
