Largeness of Heart

Topic: In the Year 2021 God Desires to Expand Our Heart.

And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore.

1 Kings 4:29 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Leviticus 24-25

Bible Versions:

[NLT] God gave Solomon very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore.

[NIV]  God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

[MSG] God gave Solomon wisdom—the deepest of understanding and the largest of hearts. There was nothing beyond him, nothing he couldn’t handle.

Thoughts of Devotion:

In this year of 2021 if we are going to be able to expand and grow then the Holy Spirit needs to do something new in our hearts. By looking at the Scriptures, one comes to discover that everything begins in the heart. This is a great lesson we learn in the life of King Solomon. When he had the opportunity to ask for something from God, his request was an understanding heart! We read this in 1 Kings 3: 9–10, “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.”

God had to take King Solomon through a process where his heart expanded, a growth of heart! His heart had to be big enough to contain all that God had for his life. There was a specific purpose for Solomon and he needed a new and enlarged heart. In 1 Kings 3:12 he tells us, “behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.” His capacity needed to grow to receive God’s impartation for his life.

This morning we must ask God to give us a heart according to His, a wise heart that loves and does His will. May the Holy Spirit, in this new year 2021, broaden our hearts to bear all that God has prepared for our lives. Only through the work of the Holy Spirit will we be able to obtain a new heart and remove all the things that do not please him. In Ezekiel 36:26 he promises us, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Let’s pray that we experience this, we can’t stay the same! Amen.
