Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning we can learn something from the words of John the Baptist if we wish to expand our lives in the year 2021. He understood the key to spiritual growth in his life and ministry. John came to the conclusion that the more he decreased, the more Christ grew in him! He understood that his role was very minimal, that the one who should have all the attention was Jesus the Messiah. This makes it clear to us in John 3:27–28, “John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’. “
If we want to grow, then we must take the path of humility and submission to God. We cannot think that we know everything, or that we can do everything! We must have a correct concept of who we are in the Lord. In Romans 12:3 he tells us, “For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.. ” A correct perspective of who we are in God is important if we are to grow spiritually in the year 2021.
Today we must always look for Jesus to grow in us. Our prayer must be, more of Him and less of me! May the Holy Spirit have the freedom to grow those areas in our lives that we have not seen fruit. In everything we do, it is important to keep a humble and submissive heart before God. Let’s remember what James 4:6–7 tells us, “But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” This is our year of expansion and growth, but it will be necessary to decrease for Him to grow in us. Amen!
