Thoughts of Devotion:
The Book of Acts reveals the beginning and development of the early church. Within its pages we discover how the first believers carried out their mission to preach the gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. We see how this was accomplished through a divine and human combination, the Holy Spirit at work and all the believers mobilizing everywhere! In Acts 16:5 he tells us, “So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.” The church gained momentum and growth in a supernatural and miraculous way.
This morning if there were words to define the early church it would be “growth and multiplication.” It is extremely clear that the early church experienced rapid and quick growth. Scripture teaches us that new people were added to congregations every day. We see that thousands are added in a single day. There was an explosion of growth! Wherever you look, hundreds of people were saved at once. The evangelism practiced by the early believers yielded abundant and lasting fruit. There was continual fruit of the preaching of the Word. Wherever salvation was preached there was a multiplication of salvations, “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem…” (Acts 6: 7).
The Book of Acts gives us the model, the example and the pattern that we must follow today. In this New Year 2021 we can experience the same abundant and supernatural life that the early church had, if only we follow their example! As believers we are challenged to live lives filled with the Holy Spirit. To be able to see a strong and firm church despite the attacks that the enemy may launch on us. In Matthew 16:18 he tells us, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Today’s church is called to experience growth and multiplication, this is the pattern we see in the Book of Acts!
