Day 18: Monday, January 18

Renewal of Your Understanding

Topic: The Newness of God Begins With The Transformation Of Our Minds.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Genesis 48-50

Bible Versions:

Romans 12: 2 (MSG) – 2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Romans 12: 2 (NLT) – 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Thoughts of Devotion:

Renewal according to the text we read has its beginning in our mind! We must understand that our way of thinking has a direct consequence on who we are and how we conduct ourselves. In Proverbs 23: 7 he tells us, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

 [man] …” What we need today is a renewal of our mind. A new way of thinking, a mind like Christ’s, just as 1 Corinthians 2:16 tells us, “For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

The renewal of our thinking is a very important process that should be happening in our lives in 2021. It is true that it will take time and effort, but the fruit will be that we will see a real change. For this to happen, our mind must be filled with things that will build our spiritual life, as Philippians 4: 8 declares, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”

We cannot just spend our day occupying our minds with things that are not edifying, such as doubts, fears, or things that belong to the flesh. In Romans 8: 6 he warns us, “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Today we must be determined not to waste time on thoughts that will bring us down spiritually. On the contrary, we must fill ourselves with the Word of God! God’s plan is for us to be renewed and changed daily through the renewal of our minds. Only in this way will we experience the newness of God in this year 2021.

Foundational Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV) – 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

Ephesians 4:23 (NKJV) – 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

1 Peter 1:13 (NKJV) – 13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Colossians 3:12 (NKJV) – 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

Romans 8: 6 (NKJV) – 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
