Thoughts of Devotion:
Today the Lord makes us a personal invitation to seek His face. This morning, just as in the times of Zechariah, God calls each one of us by name to come and implore his favor. What a beautiful image we read! A crowd of people going to the temple in Jerusalem to seek God’s help. It reminds me of the portion in Isaiah 2: 3 where it tells us, “Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
I wonder what they were looking for from God? The Bible teaches us that they sought the face of God so that they could plead with him for their lives. There was a great longing, love, and zeal in them to seek God’s help and blessing. This feeling was so great that even they were moved to invite and convince others to seek God. What a precious move of his Spirit! This is revival, when you can see a great move within the people to seek the face of God.
What about us this morning? Do we have this same feeling of seeking the face of God? I personally believe that today more than ever we must implore God’s favor on our lives. We need God to intervene in a real and genuine way in our situation. We are daily faced with difficult situations that seem impossible to natural eyes. Moments where only the favor of God can work so that things change or improve. His favor will be the only thing that will succeed in doing what we cannot. It is for this reason that by seeking his face we are imploring his help, guidance and protection. Let’s seek God together today, and we will surely see His favor in the days to come.
Jeremiah 26:19 (NKJV) – 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah ever put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and seek the Lord’s favor? And the Lord relented concerning the doom which He had pronounced against them. But we are doing great evil against ourselves.”
1 Samuel 13:12 (NKJV) – 12 then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”
2 Kings 13: 4 (NKJV) – 4 So Jehoahaz pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
2 Chronicles 33:12 (NKJV) – 12 Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
Zechariah 7: 2 (NKJV) – 2 when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the Lord,
