Topic: Faith Leads Us To Render Worship With Excellence To Our God.
By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.
Hebrews 11: 4 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
Numbers 15-16; Mark 6
[NLT] 4 It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith.
[NIV] 4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.
[MSG] 4 By an act of faith, Abel brought a better sacrifice to God than Cain. It was what he believed, not what he brought, that made the difference. That’s what God noticed and approved as righteous. After all these centuries, that belief continues to catch our notice.
Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning we see that the first act of worship in history is linked to a life and an act of faith on Abel’s part. We see that he approached God with an attitude of adoration presenting him with the best sacrifice he could offer. From the depths of his heart he approached and offered acceptable and pleasant worship before God. Abel came looking for God in faith as Hebrews 11: 6 tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
When one lives a life of faith a pleasant aroma will arise to God. Our faith will produce a life of genuine worship in spirit and truth. A non-external, but internal adoration from the heart, from our spirit as John 4: 23–24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” This is the worship that God seeks, this is the worship that a genuine faith in God produces.
On this day God seeks this quality of worship in us. An adoration of the type of Abel, which is always done with excellence and dedication! A worship that is the result of faith exclusively in God. That recognizes the greatness of God and how insignificant we are. In Romans 12: 1 he tells us about this life of adoration, ” I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” In this year 2020 let us decide to live a life of worship before God. Regardless of the circumstances we face, remember that, our faith has the ability to produce a sweet aroma of worship before God!
Malachi 1: 8 (NKJV) – 8 And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you favorably?” Says the Lord of hosts.
