Will Be Like His Teacher

Topic:  A Challenge To Be Like Christ, That Is Our Goal!

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

Luke 6:40 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

John 4-5

Bible Versions:

Luke 6:40 (MSG) —An apprentice doesn’t lecture the master. The point is to be careful who you follow as your teacher.

Luke 6:40 (NLT) — Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.

Luke 6:40 (NIV) — The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.

Devotional Thought:

Today we see that the topic of discipleship is very popular. When one tries to cover this important topic, certain things can come to mind. Since the subject, is very extensive! But something we must always keep in mind is that the ultimate goal of discipleship should be to become like Jesus in all that we “are and do”. This should be a priority in our lives, if we want to be disciples of the Lord. Im reminded of the Apostle John’s words, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked”. (1 John 2:6).

We must examine our lives and ask ourselves, are we being true disciples of the Lord? Are we looking more like Him every day? Never forget that Jesus is the greatest model and example that we can follow in our walk with God. His life was the highest example of discipleship that we could follow! In John 13:15 the bible says, “For I have given you an example, that as I have done, you should do.” All that Jesus left us written in His word is with only one purpose, that we reflect Him in every aspect of our daily lives.

Not until we achieve this model of discipleship, can we lead others in the right steps. This is a great truth, there are others who are following our footsteps! There are people who depend on us to show them the right path. It’s important to always keep in mind, each of our lives is The Lord’s influence to others. For some, the only gospel they will ever know is the one we live. Pray that we can say what the Apostle Paul said, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). We must imitate Jesus and be like Him, so we may come to be genuine disciples.

Topical References:

1 John 2:6 (NKJV) — Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Matthew 10:25 (NKJV) — It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!

John 13:15–16 (NKJV) — I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.

John 15:20 (NKJV) — Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also
