You Should No Longer Walk In The Futility Of Their Mind

Topic: Challenge To Experience The New Life And Experience The Renewal Of The Mind!

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

Ephesians 4:17 (NIV) — ¹⁷ So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

Thoughts of Devotion:

This morning the Lord challenges us to no longer live in the same way we lived when we did not know him. His Word exhorts us to be different, to not walk in the vanity of our mind with empty and aimless thoughts. Our condition before we came to know the Lord was as Ephesians 4:18 says, “having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.” What a sad condition are the thoughts of those who do not know of God, a mind that is darkened, frivolous and crooked!

But the Christian is different, we now have the responsibility to renew our minds and walk in newness of life. The renewal of the mind is not optional, it is something that Scripture continually demands. In Romans 12:2 it tells us, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Our goal is to continually renew our mind in his Word, that is the only way we can experience the new life in Christ Jesus! Daily we must be saturating our minds with thoughts that build our spiritual life.

I ask you, how do you fill your mind every day? What are you always thinking about? This will determine whether you will achieve to experience new life in Christ Jesus. In Philippians 4:8 tells us, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things arenoble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” These things of value are those that should be filling our minds, what a difference those thoughts are to those that sometimes dominate us! In this 90 Day Challenge we must decide to renew our minds, to walk in the new life that the Lord gives us.
