Topic: The Lord Challenges Us to Serve, To Be Faithful and Useful Servants!
9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. 10 So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ”
Luke 17:9–10 (NKJV)
Daily Bible Reading Plan
Luke 17:9–10 (NLT) — 9 And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not. 10 In the same way, when you obey me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’ ”
On this day it is important to recognize that we are only servants. At the end of the day this is the highest calling one can achieve in this world. It is not a title, or a position in his work, it is simply the fact of obeying the Lord and doing what he has called us to do in this life. Everything is about fulfilling his will, his desires, his plans is our walk with Him. This must be our daily responsibility! We are not doing God a favor, but he has favored us by giving us the privilege of serving Him.
Thoughts of Devotion:
Remember that the role of the servant is very simple, he only does what his master desires. When you take this position in your life there is no place for your own opinions or giving suggestions to the master. Obedience is what God seeks! A life completely submitted to the Lord. In the words of the Apostle Paul, “For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!”(1 Corinthians 9:16). When one has the Lordship of Christ over his life, his life no longer belongs to him, he is under orders and his only desire is to fulfill the orders of his master.
At the end of the day, when we finish our work on this earth, all that will have value is what we manage to do for the Lord. How much we obeyed him and if we really did his will! Our reward will be the satisfaction of seeing the Lord pleased. Coming to fulfill what Psalm 16: 2, “O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.” Pray that we always have a posture of servants and slaves toward the Lord. May our life always be marked by total obedience, simply obeying him because he is our master!
