90 Day Challenge – Day 9

Woe Is Me If I Do Not Preach The Gospel

Topic: Take the Challenge of Witnessing Your Faith!

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

1 Corinthians 9:16 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

Matthew 24-25

Bible Versions:

1 Corinthians 9:16 (NIV) – 16 For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

1 Corinthians 9:16 (NLT) – 16 Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!

1 Corinthians 9:16 (MSG) – 16 I’d rather die than give anyone ammunition to discredit me or impugn my motives. If I proclaim the Message, it’s not to get something out of it for myself. I’m compelled to do it, and doomed if I don’t!

Thoughts of Devotion:

The Apostle Paul in this portion of the Scriptures shares to us about the importance of witnessing about our faith. He shows us that sharing the gospel is not something optional or if we feel like it, but on the contrary it is an obligation that must burn in our hearts! Very similar to the words spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, “Then I said, “I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name.” But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.” (Jeremiah 20: 9) It is the fire of the Holy Spirit that drives us to testify even when we are not in good spirits.

When we have the fullness of the Holy Spirit there is an urgency, we are dominated by the obligation to spread the message of God’s love to our friends, neighbors and family. It is impossible to remain silent in the face of such a great need that surrounds us, there are so many who do not know of the hope found in Christ Jesus! In Acts 4: 19-20 he teaches us this same passion that the first disciples had, “But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

This morning I ask, when was the last time you testified of your faith? It’s a question that is difficult for some to answer. But this morning take the challenge of sharing others with the love of God. It is God who has called and commissioned you for this great task. You have the privilege of sharing the good news to a world that is surrounded daily with bad news. In Acts 9:15 The Lord said to Paul, “But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.” These are the same words, the Great Commission given to us. Go ahead in fulfilling the mission of Jesus!

Foundational Scriptures:

Acts 4:20 (NKJV) – 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
