Thoughts of Devotion:
In this portion of the Scriptures we see how the people of Israel rejected Jesus. Our Savior came to bring peace and salvation, but they did not receive it, they continually rejected him! They did not seize the opportunity that was in front of them. What a special time, Jesus among them, the promised Messiah. But Jesus again and again lamented when he saw the sad and harsh condition of the people. In Matthew 23:37 we read, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!”
Jesus on this occasion cried and poured out his soul in anguish to see the rejection that his people had towards him. In Luke 19: 41–42 we read, “Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things thatmake for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.” The pain of our Savior was profound, being able to see how they did not take advantage of the opportunity to experience His peace and blessing. His tears were also from the future consequences of the rebellion and hardness of their hearts, Jerusalem would be reduced to dust!
The Gospel of John then tells us, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”(John 1: 11–12). Today we have an opportunity to experience and know Jesus personally. He promises to have daily communion with us his children, an intimate and close relationship! His Spirit has been poured out in a very special way in these last days. We cannot let his special visitation pass over us, it is time to dive into the rivers of his presence!
Luke 1: 68–69 (NKJV) – 68 Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, For He has visited and redeemed His people,69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David,
Genesis 50:24 (NKJV) – 24 And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am dying; but God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
1 Peter 2:12 (NKJV) – 12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Luke 19:38 (NKJV) – 38 saying: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Zecarias 9: 9 (NKJV) – 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.
