Thoughts of Devotion:
The Bible calls us to walk with the joy of the Holy Spirit every day of our journey here on earth. The apostle Paul continually exhorted the church of Philippi on this, urging them to live their Christian life with joy! Although he was in jail for his faith, the apostle Paul never lost his joy; his life was an example of what it is to have the fruit of the Spirit. In Philippians 2:17-18 tells us that although Paul faced the reality of being a martyr for the gospel his joy was permanent, ” Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.”
Today there is no reason to lose our joy, when you consider that the Holy Spirit abides in our hearts to enable us to walk happy and content-no matter our present situation! We must bless and praise the Lord in all circumstances as it is expressed in the book of Psalms:
Psalm 34:1 (NKJV) — 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalm 145:1 (NKJV) — 1 I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Psalm 146:2 (NKJV) — 2 While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
The Holy Spirit gives us joy at all times, every moment of our lives. We cannot depend on our situation to be cheerful and glad, because we need to understand that our true joy is not just an emotion, is the fruit of the Spirit!
This morning we must leave all grieve and sorrow aside, this is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in Him! Let us have the attitude expressed in Habakkuk 3: 17-18, ” Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” This joy is only possible through the Holy Spirit working on our lives; only He can give us this joy!
Philippians 3:1 (NKJV) — 1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.
1 Chronicles 15:16 (NKJV) — 16 Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.
Romans 12:12 (NKJV) — 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;
1 Thessalonians 5:16 (NKJV) — 16 Rejoice always,
Matthew 5:12 (NKJV) — 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Acts 5:41 (NKJV) — 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.
Philippians 1:4 (NKJV) — 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,
