Thoughts of Devotion:
In this morning the Holy Spirit calls us to live in unity with our family of the faith. Unity is so important that we are able to see it in Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21, “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” But this unity is impossible without the help of the Holy Spirit, only he can bring the love and peace that is much needed today. The unity in the body of Christ, which is his church is the creation of the Spirit, and not of man.
Preserving unity is the responsibility of each believer in communion with the Holy Spirit. We must always be diligent and strive to break down any division and contention that is seen in the church and in the community of faith in which we live. Forgiveness and love must always triumph over hatred and enmity. In Colossians 3:13 he tells us, “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” There will never be justified reason not to forgive, or restore unity with those believers who have offended or hurt us in some way.
It is the work of the Spirit that brings whole-hearted unity in the life of each believer. Only he can produce the unifying bonds of love within the body of Christ. Only in this way will we see the fulfillment of 1 Corinthians 1:10, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, andthat there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” Today we must take the challenge of seeking unity and discarding any division that can be seen between us. The will of the Holy Spirit is that we are united with the same feeling, carrying out the great task that lies ahead!
Colossians 3:14 (NKJV) – 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
John 13:34 (NKJV) – 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
John 17:21 (NKJV) – 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV) – 10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Colossians 3:13 (NKJV) – 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Colossians 2:19 (NKJV) – 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.
