Topic: We need Deep Roots to Overcome Temptations.
But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

Thoughts of Devotion:
This morning it is important to have deep roots in God. Without these well-rooted and profound roots in the Word of God we run the risk of falling into the different temptations that the devil puts before us. The Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 3: 5 writes of this saying, “For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.” Their interest is that they should not be fooled by the tempter, that they should not fall into his lying traps!
Today we are in the same danger if we are not careful. Our faith must always be firm and deeply rooted so as not to be moved by the situations and trials that come into our lives. In Colossians 1:23 he tells us, “if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.” When we have good roots and are grounded and firm in faith, the enemy can not overthrow us.
I ask you, how are your spiritual roots? This will depend if you have deepened your communion with the Holy Spirit, in the Word of God, in your fellowship with other believers. Today it is possible to overcome temptations, and the key is deep roots in God! In Jeremiah 17: 8 we read the condition of a believer with deep roots, “8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” Decide this day not to be moved by the temptations that the enemy sets before you, determine to deepen your roots in God!
Matthew 13: 20-21 (NKJV) – 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
John 6:66 (NKJV) – 66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.
Galatians 1: 6 (NKJV) – 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,

Colossians 1:23 (NKJV) – 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
1 Thessalonians 3: 5 (NKJV) – 5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.
