Thoughts of Devotion:
In our Christian life we are going to face moments of temptation and trials. We must understand that this is part of the process of growth and maturity in our lives. In 1 Corinthians 10:13 he tells us, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” As we read this, we see that a great part of overcoming temptations is having the ability to resist, to make a firm decision not to take the bait of sin!
There is no doubt we are going to have to make a firm decision not to make the same mistake that Adam and Eve made. The Bible teaches us that of all the trees allowed to eat in paradise, they let go and ate of the tree that God had forbidden them! In Genesis 2: 16-17 he tells us, “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Even with these instructions and warnings they made the decision to disobey and as a result to this day we, the human race, suffer these consequences.
This morning, are you facing a great temptation in your life? For a moment, think about the decisions you are going to make, and how it will affect your future! Never forget that for every decision there are consequences, we read in Galatians 6:8 tells us, “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.” I encourage you to make the decision to do good, not to abort your destiny in God, for a temporary pleasure! Maybe that will only satisfy you for a moment, but then you will have to pay hard consequences. If you decide good, God will give you the strength and power to overcome any temptation you face, you are not a victim but a victor!
Genesis 2: 16-17 (NKJV) – 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.
Deuteronomy 11:26 (NKJV) – 26 Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:
Jeremiah 21: 8 (NKJV) – 8 Now you shall say to this people, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.
Galatians 6: 8 (NKJV) – 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
