Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Colossians 2:14–15 (NIV) — having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Colossians 2:14–15 (MSG) —All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.
The Scripture teaches us that the work of Christ on the Cross disarmed all the powers of the enemy. All dominion and rule that the enemy possessed, was destroyed and demolished by the victory through the sacrifice of Jesus. That Cross that was an instrument of disgrace and death throughout history became the instrument that defeated and dismantled the enemy’s empire. The enemy’s plans were destroyed, he thought the Cross would destroy Jesus, but on the contrary, the Cross became the instrument that completely defeated the enemy.
We read in 1 Corinthians 2:8 that if he had known this truth, he would never have crucified Jesus, ” Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. ” the Cross demonstrated the supreme power, the complete victory of Jesus over the forces of the enemy. Our Lord demonstrated this victory publicly! On the Cross the enemy was disarmed and publicly exhibited, his domain was subject to Jesus Christ. It was settled once and for all, the one with all dominion and power is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ .
This brings to mind the final triumph of Jesus over everything, as His Word tells us, “that in the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and in earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” ( Philippians 2:10-11 ). One day soon, we will see the complete fulfillment of the authority and power that Jesus demonstrated at Calvary. How glorious that day will be, in which every knee will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord !
