Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

Bible Versions:

Genesis 15: 5-6 (NLT) – 5 Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

Genesis 15: 5-6 (MSG) – 5 Then he took him outside and said, “Look at the sky. Count the stars. Can you do it? Count your descendants! You’re going to have a big family, Abram!” 6 And he believed! Believed God! God declared him “Set-Right-with-God.”

Genesis 15: 5-6 (NIV) – 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Thoughts of Devotion:

At the beginning of this New Year God wants to expand your vision and take your life to another level. The Holy Spirit wants to reveal everything he has prepared for your life, family and ministry. But, like Abram there are going to be times when God reminds you of his promises that he has made to you. We read in Genesis 12: 2-3 the promise that was given to Abraham, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

The fulfillment of God’s promise to Abram took a long time, a whole process of waiting! Some of us know this process, which is not easy, and often dark and very lonely. It is for this reason that from time to time the Holy Spirit brings to mind the vision, the destiny and the promise that was given personally to us. We see again in Genesis 26:4 that God reminded Abram of his promise, “And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.” For Abram more than once God had to expand his vision and remind him of his promise, even though there was nothing in front of Him!

This morning, I encourage you to anchor yourself  to the promises that God has made to your life, because they will undoubtedly be fullfield. If you persevere in  2019, God will expand your faith and vision! Everything will begin when you see things with eyes of faith, when you manage to count the stars in the midst of your darkness. In the moments, when the doubt and the fear tries to dominate you! You have to remember again the promise that God has given to you, and believe that  He not only makes promises, but he has the power to perform each one of them, however difficult they may be in your life!

Foundational Scriptures:

  1. When reading the devotional this scripture came to mind “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good at just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessings if we don’t give up” Galatians 6:9
Knowing that serving God of course sometimes gets hard but also knowing that Gods blessing will come upon our life at the right time and learning ow to be patient!
