Topic: A Call to Remember, Before Advancing Toward the New Year 2019
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
Revelation 2: 5 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
(NLT) Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
(NIV) Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
(MSG) Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I’m well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle.
Thoughts of Devotion:
As we witness the last day of 2018, we must look back for a moment. Now, I understand that there are many of us that would prefer to look forward, we all are looking forward to the new, instead of the old! We anticipate to enter the new year, believing that 2019 will bring better days of blessings, provision, and prosperity. But we must understand something very important, a change of year does not produce much, if there is no internal, deep, and genuine change! That is why today we must see our spiritual condition and meditate where we are. Looking back is good, if we do it with an attitude of reflection. Only then can we learn some lessons.
In Isaiah 46: 9 it tells us, “Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me.” In meditating on the past days, if in truth we are sincere, some of us have fallen out of our love, passion and zeal for God. Today we no longer love God as in the beginning, as in the first days! If we meditate well on our Christian journey, we have gone through many experiences, many lessons. As Deuteronomy 8: 2 tells us, “And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.”
If we have lost our first love, the first thing we should do is remember, bring to mind, and reflect on where we have fallen. The Holy Spirit wishes to renew his communion with us. He longs for us to return once again to that place of communion and intimacy. Only there will we be restored, renewed and prepared for what 2019 will bring to our lives. Possibly today we have forgotten God, but let us not forget that he never forgets the communion that we once enjoyed with him. In Isaiah 49:15 he tells us, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.”
In these last hours of the year 2018 commitment yourself to go to another level in your love, commitment and loyalty to God. Retake your calling, embrace the promises that He has given you, and continue your journey towards the New Year 2019. Trust that the best is yet to come, that with God everything is possible. Amen!
