Topic: At the conclusion of the year 2018, Commit yourself Once Again to Return to Your First Love!
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
Revelation 2: 4-5 (NKJV)
Daily Reading Plan
(NIV) – 4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
(NLT) – 4 But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! 5 Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
(MSG) But you walked away from your first love—why? What’s going on with you, anyway? Do you have any idea how far you’ve fallen? A Lucifer fall!!“Turn back! Recover your dear early love. No time to waste, for I’m well on my way to removing your light from the golden circle.
Thoughts of Devotion:
Have you ever felt as if you have lost the love, passion, and enthusiasm you once felt toward the Lord? That love that you experienced when you first came to salvation, when you discovered God’s love for the first time! The incomparable love of God, the love that fills you with peace and happiness. A joy never known, inexplicable, incomparable to anything else in this world. But the question is, what happened to that fervent, passionate love? How could it be that you lost that love? This was the question that the Apostle Paul asked in Galatians 5: 7, “You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?”
Love should be the priority in our relationship with God. We exist to love him and have an intimate communion with the Holy Spirit. Losing our first love is a tragedy in the life of a Christian! In Mark 12:30 it teaches us that loving God is the priority, above all, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This isthe first commandment.” Loving God is the supreme thing in life, we can not do anything more grand than loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength!
Today the Holy Spirit calls us to communion with Him again, we can not be satisfied with our current situation! The state of spiritual coldness is very sad. When we find ourselves indifferent, far away, and without passion for God, it is the worst state we can find at the end of another year. The words of the prophet Jeremiah come to my mind, “Go and cry in the hearing of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I remember you, The kindness of your youth, The love of your betrothal, When you went after Me in the wilderness, In a land not sown. (Jeremiah 2: 2).
Do not wait any longer, and live unsatisfied with the condition you are in. Pray that the Holy Spirit will light that fuse, the fire, the passion for God that burns like never before in our hearts! Let’s end this year wrapped in his glory, saturated with his presence, madly in love with God. Amen!
Revelation 3: 15-16 (NKJV) – 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
1 Kings 11: 4 (NKJV) – 4 For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, aswas the heart of his father David.
2 Chronicles 17: 3 (NKJV) – 3 Now the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the former ways of his father David; he did not seek the Baals,
Jeremiah 2: 2 (NKJV) – 2 Go and cry in the hearing of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I remember you, The kindness of your youth, The love of your betrothal, When you went after Me in the wilderness, In a land not sown.
Matthew 24: 12-13 (NKJV) – 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
Galatians 5: 7 (NKJV) – 7 You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
Galatians 3: 3 (NKJV) – 3 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
