But I Press On

Topic: A Call To Go Forward, We Should Never Give Up!

Not that I have already attained,[a] or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Philippians 3:12 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Corinthians 10-11

Bible Versions:

Philippians 3:12 (NLT) – 12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

Philippians 3:12 (MSG) – 12 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.

Philippians 3:12 (NIV) – 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

Thoughts Of Devotion:

Have you been feeling lately like not wanting to keep going forward? Maybe it’s because of the situation you’re facing, or a number of obstacles you face! But this morning it is important to make a serious decision to never give up, regardless of how you feel, or what our emotions tell you. We read in Philippians 3: 13-14 how the Apostle Paul determined himself to go forward, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Our perseverance is key, our continued consistency is what will lead us to fulfill the call of God in our lives, never forgetting that God has great plans for our lives! That is why we cannot run the race of the Christian life passively, or without putting all our effort. In 1 Corinthians 9:24 he tells us, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.” It will take a lot of determination, will and desire to move forward, only through the power of the Holy Spirit can we move forward with passion and momentum!

We need to believe that God will fulfill his purpose in us if we persevere. Thus Psalm 138: 8 declares to us, “The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Remember that God will not leave you halfway, his work with you is a lifelong process. If you persevere, His work will undoubtedly be fulfilled in your life. Have courage, go press on! You still have a lot of race ahead of you. No doubt God has not finished his work in your life, the process of God in you is sure, when you stay in the process of maturity that he has prepared for you.

Fundamental Scriptures:

Philippians 3: 13-14 (NKJV) – 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [a]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 138:8 (NKJV) – 8 The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Proverbs 4:18 (NKJV) – 18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.

1 Peter 5:10 (NKJV) – 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

Acts 9:15 (NKJV) – 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.

  1. Amen, I’m grateful for the 90 day challenge journey that we are in.. Something that we neee to keep in mind is that we need to to live a challenging life for Christ, reason being is that if it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.. there’s a moving of the water likes in John 5:1-15 when the man was healed by the pool in Bethesda this man was relentless for 38 years he was challenged, but he didn’t let the moving of the water push him aside he was persistent to jump in to the moving of the water to receive his miracle 🙌🏻 You see if we are persistent we will get it, but not only that if we are consistent we will keep it.. amen 🙏🏻

  2. Amen! The Lord will surely fulfill the work that he started in our lives, and he perfects it day by day. There is so much more ahead! There is no reason to live in doubt or fear when we know God is in control. We must persevere and persevere with passion. He didn’t bring us this far to leave us.
