Thoughts Of Devotion:
This morning it is important to give importance to the things that God values. In this portion we see mentioned a few of the gifts that he has given to his church. These manifestations, or gifts that the Holy Spirit has appointed to the church, are essential and necessary for the development and growth of the church and even of our spiritual lives. In 1 Corinthians 12:11-12 he tells us, “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 12 For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ”
One of these manifestations of the Holy Spirit is the gift of tongues that is mentioned in various portions of the Scriptures. We see that speaking in unknown tongues is the first evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. In Acts 2: 4 it shows us that at the time the disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit they began to speak in various kinds of tongues, “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” This was a real experience, produced by the work of the Holy Spirit!
This morning it is important to bring to light and emphasize this gift that our heavenly Father has left us as his children. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the “promise of the Father” that he has given to all of us who are part of the body of Christ. It’s something that we should look for and receive if we have’nt received it yet. In 1 Corinthians 14: 1-2 he tells us, “Pursue love, and desire spiritualgifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understandshim;however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
Today we cannot underestimate this glorious and important gift. God never assigns anything to us, if it is not important for the edification of our lives! Today more than ever we need to live filled with the Holy Spirit, exercising the gifts that he has left to his church.
1 Corinthians 12: 7 (NKJV) – 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
1 Corinthians 12:18 (NKJV) – 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.
Acts 20:28 (NKJV) – 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church [a]of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Romans 12: 6 (NKJV) – 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let usprophesy in proportion to our faith;
1 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV) – 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
1 Corinthians 14: 1-2 (NKJV) – 1 Pursue love, and desire spiritualgifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understandshim;however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
1 Corinthians 14:39 (NKJV) – 39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
Mark 16: 17-18 (NKJV) – 17 And these signs will follow those who [a]believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Acts 2: 4 (NKJV) – 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
