And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

Daily Reading Plan
AMPC – And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],
AMP – And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom [using clever rhetoric], but [they were delivered] in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit [operating through me] and of [His] power [stirring the minds of the listeners and persuading them],
MSG – I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate—I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it—and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God’s Spirit and God’s power did it, which made it clear that your life of faith is a response to God’s power, not to some fancy mental or emotional footwork by me or anyone else.
In this portion of the Scriptures we can observe something very important about the ministry of the Apostle Paul. We see how his preaching was not only through excellence of words, but with a demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit! In 1 Corinthians 2:1–2 we read, “and I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” His message was very simple, but powerful, it changed and transformed lives!
This was the key to the success of the Apostle Paul, the anointed preaching under the power of the Holy Spirit! The message was not communicated through human knowledge or wisdom, but it impacted lives through the work of the Holy Spirit. He did not try to inform the people of the gospel, but to impact their lives with the power of the Holy Spirit! The unsaved were moved to repentance and faith from an inner work of the Spirit, there were always great results! In Romans 15:19 it states, “in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.”
Today it is possible to see the same results and fruit in the evangelism we see in the Book of Acts. There is a great need in our world and community, so many lives in need and without hope in their lives! We cannot be satisfied with the little fruit we sometimes see, we must believe that the Holy Spirit wants to anoint us to see greater results! In 1 Thessalonians 1: 5 he tells us, “For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.” Let us Pray that our preaching, that the sharing of our faith will be not only words, but that the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit will be always present!
