In The Day Of My Trouble

Topic: God Hears My Prayer In The Day Of My Trouble

Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; Incline Your ear to me; In the day that I call, answer me speedily.

Psalms 102:2 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Samuel 20-22

Bible Versions:

Psalms 102:2 (MSG) — Don’t turn your back on me just when I need you so desperately. Pay attention! This is a cry for help! And hurry—this can’t wait!

Psalms 102:2 (NLT) — Don’t turn away from me in my time of distress. Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly when I call to you.

Psalms 102:2 (NIV) — Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.

Devotional Thought:

As we read the scripture this morning it is possible to feel the anguish and the deepest need of the Psalmist. He cried out to God in his time of need and implored his help. He wanted God to intervene in his hour of distress. He wanted to see God answer him soon, his fear was to faint, as Psalm 143:7 tells us, “Answer me speedily, O LORD, because my spirit faints; Do not hide your face from me, lest I not be like those that descend into the pit. ” His desire was to see his face!

The Psalmist understood that it was possible that God hid His face from him. Time after time we read Psalms as prayers and request for God to not hide his face from them. In my opinion I think this is the saddest thing, when God decides to hide his face from us. We feel the distance and feel that was slow to respond to us. We ask, “Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction, and our oppression?” (Psalm 44:24). We come to understand that if God hides His face, His favor and blessing ceases upon us.

Are you going through a situation where you do not see the favor and blessing of God? Do you feel as if God hid his face from you? First, you must recognize that without God’s favor and blessing nothing changes for the good in our lives. His face and his presence is what bring his favor upon us. Its not our own effort or human wisdom! Without His favor nothing will succeed and prosper in our lives. Today is the day to seek His face like never before, we should do what the people of Israel did in 2 Chronicles 30:9, “For if you return to the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, and will return to this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and depart not His face from you, if you return unto him.” This is his promise !
