Thoughts of Devotion:

The Bible calls us to be alert, and vigilant in prayer. In its pages we find a warning of these last days, being dangerous and turbulent! In Matthew 24:6-7 he tells us, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not troubled, because all this must happen; but it is not yet the end. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be pestilences, and famines, and earthquakes in different places.” These are the final days, before the Lord’s coming, days in which the worry and anxiety of the future will overtake the hearts of many.

It is because of these conditions in our world and society, that today more than ever we must persevere in prayer. We must be vigilant and be careful not to fall into apathy and spiritual neglect. It is necessary to be able to see for ourselves, to be ready for the coming of the Lord in the clouds! In Luke 21:34 he warns us, “See also for yourselves, lest your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly.” We cannot be spiritually asleep, when God calls us to be alert!

Prayer is essential, it is vital and extremely important to survive these days in which we live. Our Lord Jesus Christ warned his disciples to be vigilent and pray to be ready and careful, knowing that dangerous times are coming upon humanity! In Luke 12:40 he tells us, “You, then, also, be ready, because at the time you do not think, the Son of Man will come.” This morning we keep in mind that Jesus is coming soon and we must be ready! Knowing that persevering in prayer will keep us, and will keep us ready and prepared for his coming.
