Having Become Confident In The Lord

Topic: Your Courage and Perseverance Encourages Others To Go Forward With Bravery and Boldness.

14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

Philippians 1:14 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

1 Timothy 1-6

Bible Versions:

Philippians 1:14 (NLT) – 14 And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers[a] here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.

Philippians 1:14 (NIV) – 14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

Philippians 1:14 (MSG) – Not only that, but most of the followers of Jesus here have become far more sure of themselves in the faith than ever, speaking out fearlessly about God, about the Messiah.

Thoughts of Devotion:

The Apostle Paul was a man who never gave up. Even in the worst of situations he continued and persevered in his calling and destiny. Even chains and prisons could not stop him from moving forward. In Ephesians 6: 19-20 he said to his hearers, “and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” He was a courageous ambassador in chains, encouraging others to persevere!

Courage and perseverance was what marked the first disciples. Despite the opposition, they continued forward, they had a fighting spirit and tenacity! The more opposition, the more they were infused with the confidence and power of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 4:18-19 he tells us, “So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge.” Obedience to God was more important than the persecution, discouragement, and opposition they were facing.

This type of attitude and behavior undoubtedly influenced others not to hold back. The courage and boldness that they showed under opposition was an example for others to follow in their footsteps. Because they persevered and stood firm, others were encouraged not to retreat, to go forward without hesitation! Never forget that your perseverance, influences others to also move forward. Our testimony of courage and strength to serve God despite what we are going through has a great impact on those around us. In 1 Thessalonians 2: 2 the Apostle Paul reminded his followers by saying, “But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.”

Today do not let the enemy fill you with discouragement, take strength and be encouraged from those who have not yet retreated in their walk with the Lord. Remember what Hebrews 10:39 tells us, “But we are not of those who go back to perdition, but of those who have faith for the preservation of the soul.” I encourage you this morning, go ahead, do not stop, the Lord is with you. Your perseverance will inspire others who are seeing you, your testimony of firmness despite the opposition will strengthen the lives of others!
