Thoughts of Devotion:
The Bible describes Christian life as a race, a race in which we all run daily with the goal of obtaining the prize. This is how the Apostle Paul describes it in 1 Corinthians 9:24, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.“ This is the challenge for us today, run and continue running! Not letting anything stop us or get in the way of our race. Running until we reach the goal, to one day in a not very distant future be able to obtain the prize in eternity!
I believe we all desire not only to run well, but also to finish the race that we have been commended. But in order to accomplish this, it will depend on us being obedient to the Lord. Our obedience in this race will be very important and crucial! There will surely be many distractions and disturbances that will try to stop us from fulfilling God’s purpose and destiny for our lives. It is in those moments that our obedience to the Lord should prevail against everything that may come towards us. We must be careful of not falling in the same mistake as the Galatians, in that occasion Paul had to rebuke the, harshly saying, “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth” (3:1a).
As we understand this, I ask you, what is it that is disturbing you? What things keep you from obeying God? It will be necessary to defeat these obstacles and surrender completely to the will of God if we are going to finish the race that is before us. Let’s pray that we would have the same attitude as the Apostle Paul when he wrote the words, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,” (Philippians 3:13). Let’s make an effort today and make the decision to obey the Lord!
Galatians 3:1 (NKJV) — 1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?
1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) — 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV) — 1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
Galatians 1:6 (NKJV) — 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,
Philippians 3:13 (NKJV) — 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
