I Have Commanded You, Be Strong And Of Good Courage

Topic: Strength Comes From The Promise Of His Presence

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

Bible Reading Plan

Proverbs 1-3

Bible Versions:

Joshua 1:9 (NIV) — Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 (MSG) — Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

Joshua 1:9 (NLT) — This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Devotional Thoughts:

In these verses of the Bible we find a young Joshua facing a great challenge before Him. The Lord’s command was, march and possess the land! God had promised them a land flowing with milk and honey. In Joshua 1:3 the Lord says, “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said unto Moses”. The promise was total possession, not only a part but the whole land of blessing . It was to be a place of provision and blessing for their lives. They would experience a radical change, from the wilderness to the land of blessing.

I wonder, what would it take to possess the promise land? It was clear that they would see opposition and would face several enemies. The land was promised, but they would have to fight and possess what God had promised. They would need more than a well-armed army, this task would require divine intervention from God. They were going to need His presence with them, nothing less than His presence! Only His presence would infuse the supernatural forces from the Lord. His presence in them would make the difference between them fainting or succeeding in the challenge they faced.

Today, The Lord promises to be with us! His promise in Isaiah 41:10 tells us, “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” There is no reason for us to faint, or give up, there are still promises to be possessed. There are still places that the soles of our feet should tread upon, we have not arrived! God has much more for us. We just have to trust and understand that His presence will make the difference in us. God is with us this day! Just march forward to the land that flows milk and honey.
