But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

Thoughts Of Devotion:
This morning we have the great privilege to praise and worship God, the ability to express our gratitude. As believers we must never allow anything to rob us of expressing our praise and worship. On occasions things might not go as we would like them to, but even then we understand that God is worthy of all glory and honor. As Psalms 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth”. We declare this morning that, the enemy cannot rob us of the blessing of worshiping the Lord! Whatever may happen we will lift the name of Jesus on high.
Scripture reminds us of the two disciples Paul and Silas, that despite being in prison, the enemy could not rob them of the praise and worship that they had in their heart. Chains couldn’t take God’s joy and peace from upon their lives. We see that even after being whipped and beaten numerous times they still had a song to sing for everyone to hear. They raised their voices and sang from their heart about God’s greatness. What an example for us! We must learn that God always deserves to be exalted in the midst of our trials and battles. Our praise is totally independent from circumstances we are going through. We exalt God because he is worthy of all our praise and honor.
Our prayer this morning should be to learn to praise God in the midst of our situation, so we may see God’s glory fill our lives and break the chains! This year 2014 we must learn to exalt God with our praise and worship. We should become those worshipers that God is seeking, as his Word says, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him” (John 4:23). Together we can see the power of praise in our lives. The results will be an experience, we will be filled with his glory and we will have a complete liberty!
Exodus 40:35 (NKJV) — 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
1 Kings 8:11 (NKJV) — 11 so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
Psalms 34:1 (NKJV) — 34 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Ephesians 5:19 (NKJV) — 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Hebrews 13:15 (NKJV) — 15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
