1 Corinthians 3: (TLB)- 3 Dear brothers, I have been talking to you as though you were still just babies in the Christian life who are not following the Lord but your own desires; I cannot talk to you as I would to healthy Christians who are filled with the Spirit.
The confrontation of the Apostle Paul was very direct, as spiritual Father exhorted them saying, are you brothers, carnal children or spiritual men? His frustration was that he wanted to deal with them in another level of spirituality, but the reality was that most of them were carnal! They lived in a state where it was impossible for them to understand the wisdom of the high, the spiritual life, the deep things of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 the Apostle Paul once again told them, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. “
The Apostle Paul on this occasion established two classes of people, those who are governed by the Holy Spirit and those who are governed by their fleshly nature. The state of the brethren in Corinthians was one of spiritual childhood, yet they had not matured in their conduct, they walked in carnality and not in the fullness of the Spirit! They continually had to be reminded of the importance of abandoning their way of life, their spiritual childhood! In 1 Corinthians 14:20 it tells us, “Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature.”
Today it is urgent that we live a life full of the Holy Spirit, full of the abundant life that he offers us! There is so much more that God wants to give to our lives, but first we will have to mature, we will have to leave behind the life in the flesh, the pleasures and desires that go against the Spirit. Understanding that the spiritual life will only be possible through the inner workings of the Holy Spirit in us. In Ephesians 4:14 it tells us, ” that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.” Let us advance to maturity, to a life Walking in the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:6 (NKJV)-6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
