Lest You Also Fall From Your Own Steadfastness

Topic: Steadfast Without Being Moved From Our Place

You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;

2 Peter 3:17 (NKJV)

Daily Reading Plan

2 Chronicles 12-16

Bible Versions:

2 Peter 3:17 (NLT) — Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.

2 Peter 3:17 (MSG) — But you, friends, are well-warned. Be on guard lest you lose your footing and get swept off your feet by these lawless and loose-talking teachers.

Devotional Thought:

The Lord warns us continually of the dangerous days we live in. His Word is very clear in teaching the dangers of backsliding or being swept away by the present conditions of the world. These days are described as, “the last days” in which, the coming of the Lord is near! His coming will be like a thief in the night, and it will be essential for us to be prepared. This is what the previous verse declares, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up “(2 Peter 3:10).

It’s interesting that the Lord’s coming will be like a thief in the night. This should put us on high alert! Just knowing that the Lord will be coming unexpected by some, many are found unprepared, and the consequences will be severe. It is for this reason that we must be ready and strong in the Lord. We must heed the warning in 1 Corinthians 10:12, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall”. Today we can not fall into the deception of thinking that we’re fine, when in fact we are backsliden in our walk with the Lord.

Our prayer should be, Lord let us always be strong and passionate about you! That we may never think we have arrived. Let us be sure that God has more for our lives! In these days there is a greater glory for us, if only we stand firm in Him, and do not allow anyone or anything move us. I conclude with these words, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent” (Revelation 2:5).

Topical References:

1 Corinthians 10:12 (NKJV) — Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Revelations 2:5 (NKJV) — Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) — Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV) — Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

  1. Amen, I will continue to peruse what the lord has for my spiritual life. I will never be comfortable in the place I’m at!!!

  2. God is coming soon. We need to be careful that we don’t fall out of God’s grace. We won’t know when he is coming so we must be ready. We can’t let are selfies backslide. We must stay in God presence for he is coming soon.
