Theme: Our Friendship with the Holy Spirit Must Be a Priority!
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
James 4: 4

James 4:4 (NIV)-4 You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
James 4:4 (NLT)-4 You adulterers![a] Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.
James 4:4 (MSG)-4 You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way.
This morning the Lord’s command is very clear to us, do not be friends with the world! This is a very strong statement, but when you read the Scriptures you discover the danger when one becomes to friendly with the world. In Matthew 6:24 it states, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. The Word of God continually exhorts us to abandon anything in this life that is a danger to our communion with the Holy Spirit.
Our love must be directed toward God. We cannot love the world and love God at the same time with a genuine love. In 1 John 2:15 we are told, “1 John 2:15, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” There is a spiritual conflict when our hearts are divided. We cannot experience all that God wants for our lives, if our love is not exclusively for Him! Or abandon communion and friendship with the world, or our intimacy with the Holy Spirit will suffer.
Today we cannot fall into this error; we cannot conform to the current and the mentality of this world. Let us remember that we are in the world, we live in the world, but we are not of this world, we belong to the Father! In Romans 12: 2 he exhorts us, “ 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” We must decide to break alliance and friendship with the things of this world, and to give ourselves as a living and pleasing sacrifice to God. It is then that we will live in communion and genuine friendship with the Holy Spirit, and experience the world of faith and the supernatural.
Romans 8:7 (NKJV)-7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
1 John 2:15 (NKJV)-15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
John 15:19 (NKJV)-19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)-24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
John 17:14 (NKJV)-14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV)-14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)-7 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)-15 And I will put enmityBetween you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Matthew 10:34-36 (NKJV)-34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’
